Thrashing in transactionprocessingsystemscan be prevented by controlling the number of concurrently running transactions. Becausethe optimal concurrency level strongly dependson the workload characteristicswhich maychangein time, two algorithms for adaptive adjustmentof an upper bound for the concurrency level are proposedandcomparedby simulation.
