NIMS-AQ: A novel system for autonomous sensing of aquatic environments
— Over the last few years, the complexity of aquatic sensing applications has increased as a result of demands for: higher spatial coverage with high resolution monitoring, understanding small scale spatiotemporal dynamics and reduced system deployment complexity, among others. We present Aquatic Networked InfoMechanical System (NIMSAQ), developed based on experience from several real world campaigns in aquatic sensing and in consultation with the application scientists (the end users). We demonstrate the effectiveness of this system through diverse real world sensing campaigns in both river and lake environments. Results from several experiments, including autonomous depth profiling using a submersible sonar and adaptive sampling algorithms using phenomena model are presented.
