Performance Enhancement of Web Server System
The invention of the Internet has ushered in advances in information era which has revolutionized the way we conduct business, advances our knowledge and promote life long learning. Each second a web server computer is bombarded with queries from numerous clients. It is then the web server system that responds to the queries by serving pages to the clients. Despite the popularity of the web server, the effectiveness of the scheduling policy used at the server to select and process the next request from a pool of outstanding requests submitted by the clients, has received very little attention. One of the major purposes of web server's scheduling policy should be to serve as many clients as possible without excessive delay. The goal of the present research is to demonstrate through discrete event simulation that web servers can respond to increasing number of client's requests by using RTB scheduling policy over traditionally used FCFS policy.
