A Product Design Using an S-Shaped and C-Shaped Transition Curves
The focus of this paper is to design a spur gear using an S-shaped transition curve where certain conditions need to be fulfilled such as curvature continuity, shaped parameter etc. After the design is completed, the design will be analyzed to find out the applicability of this design in gear manufacturing. In order to do that, the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method in strength analysis will be used. By applying this FEA, the simulated strength of this gear design can be determined. In this research, we will use Cast Iron 4.5 % Carbon, ASTM A-48 as a gear material which is highly recommended in gear manufacturing. Finally, the safety factor which is related to strength analysis will be touched upon in this paper. Keywords. S-shaped transition curve, Curvature, Finite element analysis, Spur gear
