Weights of Partitions and Character Zeros
Motivated by a question on the zeros of irreducible characters of the symmetric and alternating groups, we classify partitions which are of maximal p-weight for all odd primes p.

Optimization in Coreference Resolution is not Needed: A Nearly-Optimal Algorithm with Intensional Constraints
We show how global constraints such as transitivity can be treated intensionally in a Zero-One Integer Linear Programming (ILP) framework which is geared to find the optimal and c...

Partitions into Distinct Parts and Elliptic Curves
Let Q(N) denote the number of partitions of N into distinct parts. If ω(k) := 3k2 +k 2 , then it is well known that Q(N) + ∞X k=1 (−1)k “ Q(N − 2ω(k)) + Q(N − 2ω(−k)...

Testing Equivalence of Ternary Cubics
Let C be a smooth plane cubic curve with Jacobian E. We give a formula for the action of the 3-torsion of E on C, and explain how it is useful in studying the 3-Selmer group of an ...

Finding Gapped Motifs by a Novel Evolutionary Algorithm
Background: Identifying approximately repeated patterns, or motifs, in DNA sequences from a set of co-regulated genes is an important step towards deciphering the complex gene reg...
