Utilising the Spatial Features of Cyberspace for Generating a Dynamic Museum Environment
This paper focuses on the aesthetic aspect of distributing multimedia data in cyberspace. By dynamically modifying the contents of a virtual art exhibition, we aim to generate a virtual museum environment that utilises the spatial elasticity of cyberspace. First, we report on the existing virtual museums and extract their features and problems. Based on this survey, we propose a new form of three-dimensional virtual museum where the art collection can be rearranged in accordance with the visitor’s preference; and the museum, created with VRML and Java, transforms and readjusts itself dynamically. CR Categories and Subject Descriptions: H.5.1 [Information Interfaces and Presentation]: Multimedia Information Systems Artificial, Augmented, and Virtual Realities; I.3.7 [Computer Graphics]: Three-Dimensional Graphics and Realism - Virtual reality; J.5 [Arts and Humanities] - Fine arts.
