The UMASS Intelligent Home Project
Intelligent environmentsareaninterestingdevelopmentandresearchapplication problem for multi-agent systems. The functionalandspatialdistribution of tasksnaturally lendsitself to a multi-agent model andthe existenceof sharedresourcescreatesinteractionsover which the agentsmust coordinate. In the UMASS Intelligent Homeprojectwe havedesignedand implementeda setof distributedautonomoushomecontrol agentsanddeployed themin a simulatedhomeenvironment. Our focusis primarily on resourcecoordination, though this project hasmultiple goalsandareasof exploration ranging from the intellectual evaluationof the applicationasa generalMAS testbedto the practical evaluationof our agentbuilding and simulationtools.
