Action-Centered Communication with an Embedded Agent
In mostcases natural languageprocessingis seen as an isolated cognitive capability of a system. Languageunderstandingis often restricted to the mappingof natural languageexpressionsinto an internal semanticrepresentation, whereaslanguage production takes an explicit semantic representation as input, fromwhicha natural language utterance is generated. Theapproach presented in this paper considersthe ability to process natural languageas a distributed competenceof an embeddedartificial agent. Theagent is able to perceive the environmentwith its' sensors (vision, tactile, telemetric) and processes natural language directives. In order to describe the ongoingaction it is able to producenatural languageutterances.
