Towards a BioAPI compliant face verification system
Standards are important to the growth and acceptance of emerging industries such as the biometric industry. To promote biometric standard, the BioAPI Consortium has developed a widely accepted BioAPI specification that defines Application Programming Interface (API) for application developers and Service Provider Interface (SPI) for biometric technology developers. In this paper, we propose an implementation of a BioAPI compliant face verification BSP (Biometric Service Provider). In the face verification BSP, Line Edge Map (LEM) is used as the face recognition engine. Primitive biometric functions such as Capture, CreateTemplate, Process and VerifyMatch have been developed to provide support for face verification. In addition, to demonstrate the proposed face verification BSP, we have developed a BioAPI compliant face verification application for door access control. The performance of the face verification application is also evaluated. D 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
