A Case study of Automatic Authoring: From a Textbook to a Hyper-Textbook
This paper presents a case-study of automatic construction of a hypertext from a large full-text document. The document we used as input of the automatic authoring process is a well-known textbook of Information Retrieval IR. We explain in detail the steps performed to transform the textbook into a hyper-textbook. A hyper-textbook is the hypertextual equivalent of a textbook, in the same way as a hyperbook is the hypertextual equivalent of a book. A hyper-textbook is designed to be used both as a self instruction manual and as a reference source. Moreover, it can be printed out into its textual form in total or only partially for easy consultation without a computer. The hyper-textbook is written in HTML and can be accessed and navigated on using a common WWW browser. Key words: Automatic authoring, Hypertext, Information Retrieval, Hyperbook, Hyper-Textbook.
