The Demise of eAssessment Interoperability?
This paper examines progress made in the development of formats for the exchange of questions, tests and results. It is argued that despite large investments by vendors and educational bodies the specifications have not reached a critical mass of adoption and that this is because there is insufficient demand by users, particularly in higher education where the assessment process is strictly controlled by single institutions. This is despite the considerable economies of scale and other advantages which could result from the sharing of questions across the sector.
