Distortion minimization and continuity preservation in surface pasting
Surface pasting is a hierarchical modeling technique capable of adding local details to tensor product Bspline surfaces without incurring significant computational costs. In this paper, we describe how the continuity conditions of this technique can be improved through the use of least squares fitting and the application of some general B-spline continuity properties. More importantly, we address distortion issues inherent to the standard pasting technique by using an alternative mapping of the interior control points. Key words: B-spline, surface pasting, continuity, least squares, distortion reduction
