FAME-DBMS: Tailor-made Data Management Solutions for Embedded Systems
Data management functionality is not only needed in large-scale server systems, but also in embedded systems. Resource restrictions and heterogeneity of hardware, however, complicate the development of data management solutions for those systems. In current practice, this typically leads to the redevelopment of data management because existing solutions cannot be reused and adapted appropriately. In this paper, we present our ongoing work on FAME-DBMS, a research project that explores techniques to implement highly customizable data management solutions, and illustrate how such systems can be created with a software product line approach. With this approach a concrete instance of a DBMS is derived by composing features of the DBMS product line that are needed for a specific application scenario.
