Lianwen Jin received a BS degree from the University of Science and Technology of China and a Ph.D. degree from South China University of Technology in 1991 and 1996, respectively. He visited Motorola China Research Center in 2000 and the University of Hong Kong in 2002 and 2006 as a research fellow, respectively. He is now a professor at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, South China University of Technology. He received the New Century Excellent Talent Program Award of China MOE in 2005. He has published more than 90 papers in the areas of handwritten Chinese character recognition, image processing and pattern recognition. His current research interests include character recognition, pattern analysis and recognition, image processing, machine learning and intelligent systems. He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Signal Processing Society and IEEE Comunications Society. He was a special session chair of IEEE APCCAS 2008. He served as Program Committee member for a number of international conferences, including IWFHR 2006, ICMLC 2007, ICFHR 2008, ICDAR 2009, ICMLC 2009, ICMLC2010, ICFHR 2010, ICPR 2010 and ICDAR 2011
