Dynamicreconfigurationoffieldprogrammablegatearrays(FPGAs)hasrecentlyemergedasthenextstepinreconfigurable computing. Sanders,ALockheedMartinCompany,isdevelopingtheenablingtechnologytoexploitdynamicreconfiguration. Sanders,workingwithSignalSystemsCorporation,identifiedkeyelementstothesuccessfulutilizationofcontextswitching. Two applications,time-domainbeamformingandopticalflow,aredescribedinanattempttorevealsomeoftheinherentcomputational enhancementsaffordedbycontextswitching. Conclusionsaredrawnasaresultofthisworkandfutureworkisdescribed.
